The 80's Are Back... With A Vengeance
I was in Atlantic City, NJ this weekend and stopped to shop in some of the stores on the boardwalk. I felt a strange sense of déjà vu looking at all the neon (shorts, shirts, jackets...etc) and the floral print nylon jackets and pants on the racks! The 80's fashion trends have re-emerged, we're even seeing neon shoes on the runners at the Olympics!
And since I'm on the topic of fashion, "Just because something is in style doesn’t mean you will look good in it or should wear it." The styles today make me wonder what designers (and buyers) are thinking! I walked into a Marshall's the other day and was confronted with a clothing style I haven't seen in 30 years, the off-the-shoulder torn sweat shirt with a tank top underneath... Hello again "Flash Dance"! And on another rack I was confronted by neon yellow jeans, purple jeans, leopard print jeans and horror of all horrors... faded floral print jeans! I think I donated a pair of those to Good Will 10 years ago! I was SURE that fashion trend would NEVER come back in style. (I'm unsure how it ever was in style to begin with!)
Another fashion that has seen a recent (regrettable) return is leggings or Spandex. I have been known to wear leggings under a long sweater, with boots in the winter or under a long top but I have seen women who have no business wearing tight clothes wearing leggings (or Spandex) in hopes of (perhaps) hiding the rolls and ripples of fat? I don't mean to be cruel but that's just more than I want to see in public, Thank You.
And one more thing... while I'm on the subject of "what not to wear in public", PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE don't go out in public in your PJs. I'm sure we've all been in Wal-Mart at one time or another and seen someone out wearing their PJs, slippers and one time, I kid you not, curlers! I wanted to walk up and say, "Excuse me, but this is NOT your living room. Are you, perhaps, sleep walking?" But I was afraid they might not be completely BALANCED, if you know what I mean?
A trip to the Jersey Shore is always an entertaining spectacle, made even more entertaining when one considers the crowd that will be attending a Jimmy Buffet concert that evening.
If you haven't ever gone to the Jersey Shore for a walk on a true boardwalk, add it to your "Bucket List" for the entertainment value alone. That and a reassurance that there really is "someone for everyone".
