What Women Want

Now that I have your attention...
I was flipping through the channels the other night, as usual there was nothing on. But I flipped past the movie, What Women Want with Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt, and it got me thinking. This subject has been addressed in many ways, movies, non-fiction books, romance novels... but people (men) seem to still be boggled by this topic.

I was reading a romance novel, Sweet Talk by Susan Mallery, and she answered that question, "What do you really want?" (Wyatt asked Nicole). And I realized that the movie answered the question too but perhaps people didn't get the message?
So I'll quote the book...
Excerpt from Sweet Talk by Susan Mallery["We want to matter," she said. "We want to be the most important part of your world. We want to know you'd be lost without us, that you ache when we're gone and count the hours until we're back. We'll give you forever, if you just make us believe that."
That was a lot, Wyatt thought. More than a simple "I love you." It was about giving of himself, opening up to the possibility of handing her everything and still having her walk away.]

And of course, respect is very important too. Respect for what we do and who we are, our friends, careers and opinions. You don't have to agree with our opinions but be fair, honest, kind and considerate.
The Golden Rule still applies, treat us the way you would want to be treated.

*Personal note: a sense of humor goes a long way!*

  1. No matter how bored I might be, I will never watch a Mel Gibson movie — he's an anti-semite.
But you're right... we want to matter and be respected... by men and by other women. Too many men are downright jerks to women. But unfortunately, there are a lot of women who don't respect themselves, and they don't value the jobs of their fellow women.

  2. Clearly Mel Gibson was wrongly cast in that movie.
